Services Offered
Materials Selection
Are you using the best material in your application? We can help select a material for your specific component or equipment that would perform better, last longer and cost less. It can a new design or an existing design where you want to either enhance performance, reduce cost or both.
Process Selection
Every metal or alloy starts its journey as molten metal. It then solidifies upon cooling as a casting which may then be rolled, forged and/or machined to a desired shape for application in a variety of situations. To enhance performance it may be heat treated and/or coated with hard or soft coatings. We can optimize your material process to reduce processing steps and save money.
Failure Analysis
Materials lose usefulness due to a number of reasons – fracture, fatigue, wear and corrosion. There are many different mechanisms operating under each category. It is important to understand the specific mechanism that is responsible for its failure. Metallurgical analysis is a discipline in metallurgy that focuses on the fundamental reason why a particular component failed in service and how to prevent in the future. We use simple magnifier to advanced tools such as x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope with elemental analysis capability to study different mechanisms.
Cost Reduction
There are several ways one could reduce the cost of production of a particular product. EnMat will focus on cost reduction ideas through the selection of appropriate materials and processing methods to achieve the same end result.
Research and Development
We can assist your organization in developing proposals for small or large research and development project for funding from various government sources. Another source of financial support is through tax credits. We have many years of experience in preparing technical write-ups for scientific research and experimental development (SRED) tax credits.
Analyses and Testing
We have qualified staff to carry out the following analyses and tests: Chemical composition, microstructure, hardness, tensile, fatigue, creep, fracture, wear and corrosion.
Training
Courses/seminars range from ½ day to 5 days. We can customize any metallurgy course to suit your specific requirements based on the type of materials and process employed in your organization. For example, if you are dealing with only fabrication of aluminum alloys, there is no need for your staff to go through all metals and alloys. Instead, we can just design a course on metallurgical aspects related to fabrication of aluminum alloys. The following some examples of short courses available:
- Metallurgical failure analysis
- Materials selection methodology
- Introduction to metallurgy
- Practical metallurgy
- Metallurgy for non-metallurgists
- Steel metallurgy
- Heat treatment
- Non-ferrous metallurgy
- Metallurgy of knives
- Metallurgy of ground engaging tools (GET)
- Materials for oil and gas industry
- Weld metallurgy
- Weld hardfacing
- Thermal spraying
